EMERGING THE REAL YOU
People can be jealous for their religious routine when this is all they have. It’s like having a baked-beans tin with nothing in it. Your post cross life is not a routine. It’s a life in God and God in you. People can be affronted by a Godly but non-religious life. They can fantasise that the new covenant person has nothing, or be secretly jealous that the new covenant woman has everything without even trying. Christ your life disrupts any sense of entitlement and calls into question the fruitfulness of a religiously constructed history. But this can be a good thing because it marks the start of our new birth from non-life into life without limit.
“In the New Testament it is God who has offered a sacrifice and is asking man to receive it. He has offered His Son Jesus Christ on the cross and is asking man to believe in Him as the sacrificial lamb who takes away our sins and gives us eternal life. The game has changed. Christianity is not about man with his best lamb trying to persuade a God who is in a bad mood but it’s about a loving God reaching out to men.” (1)
There’s a false self and a true self. The false self is who we are in Adam. The real self is who we are and who we are becoming in Christ. In Christ you are becoming you. In religion and even in Christianity you are not you because religion is not Christ and not your inheritance.
In this age you have an inheritance in which God is in you and you are in God – interwoven into each other’s being. God wants you to know it and live it because he desires your companionship. “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV.
