ONE WITH GOD AS A SON/DAUGHTEER OF HONOUR

The incarnation is the foundation of Kingdom life. The son of God was incarnated as Jesus of Nazareth. This same Jesus is incarnated in you. This means that Jesus is not confined to some special area of religious piety. He is with us and through us in all of life.

GOD WITH US

God is full of mystery and paradox because God is. He is life and the progenitor of life. God’s life flows to us through His Son, By the Spirit, Christ is in us. It is in knowing Jesus in our inner person, that we see who God is. We are baptised into Father and His life through His Son Jesus. We perceive God through His Son. But the adventure of knowing God is that there is always more to know.

Jesus is fully God. The Christ always was and in the incarnation is a human being named Jesus of Nazareth. This Christ of God is incarnated in us. In Jesus we are made one with God – which is also to say that we are made who we are: Sons and daughters of God. Sure, sins deplete our life. But the greater holiness is to be who you are in Jesus Christ.

NOT LESSER

‘The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven’ Hebrews 1.3 NIV. When Christ is our life we are made one with God and take on the nature of the sons and daughters of God.

LIFE REGAINED

Fullness of Life was lost to us at the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Jesus was, so to speak nailed to this tree of death. In doing so He made it a tree of life so that we are woven into God by way of the cross. This is more of the paradox and mystery of God.

OTHER GOSPELS

The worst thing we can do as a Believer is to tamper with the cross and the way so as to make it a crooked way rather than a straight and narrow way. John the Baptist made crooked ways straight to prepare the way for the new and living way, which is the only way. There is one gospel of the Kingdom as opposed to a plurality of false christs and twisted gospels. Jesus is both the Door to our home in God as well as the window on ultimate reality. Lesser things only find their reality and purpose in Jesus in whom all things hold together.

In fact, it is in Jesus that we are one substance with God and in whom we hang together with God and in whom God is woven into our being.

MADE ONE IN THE ONENESS OF CHRIST

Writing of Thomas Torrance who is probably the most insightful theologian of modern times Robert Radcliff observes, “It is doubtful whether he had any disagreement at all with Athanasius! The homoousion of the Nicene Creed, which Athanasius defended.. was the “lynchpin” of the Christian faith without which the gospel collapsed into incoherence.” (1) Homoousion means of one substance with God. Arius did his best to justify the false belief that Jesus was less than God and a lesser being than God.*

If Jesus is not totally God and one with God then our salvation is nhill.

Indeed revisionist gospels that take us back to the law and its separation in Moses/Adam, are incoherent, contradictory and unfortunately largely, nonsense as Paul intimates in his remarks about gospels that attract a curse.

‘As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God's curse!’ Gal 1.9 NIV.

GETTING REAL

[Jesus] tells them that Ultimate Reality is “not here and not there,” taking us away from our typical attachment to religious times and places. “For the Ultimate Reality is ‘within you’!” (Luke 17:21). If you let people concentrate too much on special times, feasts, services, and seasons, they forget it is always NOW and HERE when God happens. They stop living in the present and wait for Christmas or Easter, or some far-off future day of enlightenment (see Colossians 2:16–19). (1)

REALISING

If God is not in days and times but in all times and all places, He is not in rules, regulations or the law. He is in Himself and always was. Since Pentecost He is in you.

Since Jesus is a human being and God, we are IN GOD by believing in Him. This ‘in’ is not an abstraction. It means in the fellowship of the Holy Family. It means we and God are woven together. This is the spirit of sonship.

‘Realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV.

* Arianism - Arianism is an ancient heresy which denies the divinity of Jesus Christ. As with many of the classical heresies, Arianism emerged from the struggle to reach a consensus on the Trinity. It is named after Arius, whose main concern was that it did not seem fitting that God should have a son. His solution, which became known as Arianism, was to propose that the Son (Jesus) was somewhere between God and man. Some Christian sects began in Arianism and have never entirely left it behind.
